| | mst3k | ] | Have you ever run into a stranger with a lit tattoo? I did, yesterday. A guy in his forties, maybe early fifties, had a giant Gonzo fist tattoo on the back of his leg. I wanted to compliment him, but he was picking up his dog's poop, and, ew. I very rarely see artistic or literary tattoos around here (Pittsburgh) though, so it was a nice surprise.
Also, this week I had someone recognize my Vonnegut quote at work for the first time. Usually people are stumped as to its meaning, my supervisor has even said "we've gotta be busy, busy, busy... like Erica's tattoo says!" Ew. But I talked to the guy for a bit and he is quite awesome, we are into the same music and all in addition to Vonnegut, so literary tattoos made me a friend!
Just thought I'd give us all a break from placement/font questions. What tattoos have you recently seen (on strangers) that you've appreciated? Did you talk to them about it? |

| one fuckin weird scary dream. |
[Jul. 6th, 2008|12:37 pm] |
i had a HORRIBLE nightmare last night. It involved discovering that the meat industry was actually processing human children (WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF)
And I found out that most people were actually OK with it, which was disturbing, THEN found out my MOM was OK with it, THEN decided I HAD to stop eating meat, but was finding it difficult to exist in such a revolting society so i wanted to make everyone vegan or not live at all.
It did also occur to me in the dream "If we're really eating babies, what are all those cows for?"
weird weird scary weird. |

Does anyone know anything about this object? I found it in my aunt's attic. It's ceramic and comes with paper calendar days, dates, etc. Bottom says made in Japan. It was in a box with a bunch of World War 2 documents.
Any hints are appreciated!
Thanks in advance :) |

I am ready to get my first tattoo. I'm getting "An Unquiet Mind" along my right wrist, because a) it's a condition of mine, my mind is unquiet, b) i'm a cutter and i want it to either cover or highlight my scars, either way representing their presence, and c) it's the title of one of my favorite books, by Kay Redfield Jamison.
So, here's where I need help. I have no idea what font to use, and I don't know whether I want them over the scars (I very well may cut again after the tattoo is there and mess up the ink, or I'd have to choose a different spot to cut) or above the scars.
Sorry if this is offensive or disgusting to anyone. In any case, please give me suggestions. Preferably about the tattoo and not my lifestyle. |

It's interesting - though you tagged this photograph as "I'm ready to love everything" and to me it looks like "I'm ready to lose everything," I wonder if in fact these vastly different phrases would still translate to the same meaning...

I just showed this to my husband and he said "Thank God." It took us 6 months and we felt like failures.

When I walk by a black person I'm afraid they will think I am racist if I do OR if I don't look at them.

for the record, we minorities don't notice whether you look at us on the street or not. we're thinking about politics, the weather, and what to make for dinner - just like you.

Hi Frank,
At 26, my first wrinkles have just started appearing on my forehead. At first I was upset, but then I realized it was due to the expression I make when I am interested or curious.
Now, I hope they only get deeper, because I would hate to loose that sense of wonder. Thanks for posting it so that I could remember how important it is to love something more than my appearance.

Being an EMT made me question my faith in god, but my coworkers gave me faith in humanity.

I was reading PostSecret today and I happened to scroll down to the end of the page, and saw a photo of Kristin - a childhood friend that lived around the block from me in Florida. I did hear when she died, but I was very surprised to see the suicide hotline with Kristin's picture on it.
After researching how the Kristin Brooks Hope Center was founded I had to pass along to Kristin's husband, Reese, that the love he has for her is overwhelming. His devotion to her memory is remarkable, and I just wanted him to know that a friend who knew Kristin a long time ago was proud that she married someone like him. Their child is blessed to have parents like Kristin and Reese.
Thank you for all you do to help people in dark places find their light.

The ability and opportunity to connect with one of Kristin's childhood friends was a miracle and a gift from the PostSecret community.
After Kristin's death I desperately tried to reach out to all the people she grew up with. It was important to me that people who did know her learned what happened to her and how they can prevent others from falling to the same fate.
For over 3 years the PostSecret community has helped people learn that they share some of the deepest and darkest secrets and are not alone
Thanks for this miracle.

| i feel like i haven't posted for a while, so here's a story from a few weeks ago! |
[Jul. 5th, 2008|06:22 pm] |
There's a health food store I stopped in with Priya a few weeks ago, and I was thirsty. I went to their drink section and they had peach juice and apple juice and OH WHAT'S THIS? LEMON JUICE. I love citrus!
Anyway long story short it was actually pure lemon juice and by the time I read the label on my sour sour refreshment, I had drunk about half of it. According to the label, that was the equivalent of 40 lemons! I accidentally drank 40 lemons.
It was really sour you guys and yet I have no regrets |

now i can't even think of how his naked body felt against mine.
i'm pleased at his leaving. |

This is a really old news article (2005!) but it still made me smile. I think my very favourite part is International Dada Month is being held on 4 Feb, 1 April, 28 March, 15 July, 2 Aug, 7 Aug, 16 Aug, 26 Aug, 18 September, 22 September, 1 October, 17 October and 26 October.
I guess you'd have to really practise Dadaism to understand.

| Breakfast at Tiffany's |
[Jul. 5th, 2008|02:47 am] |
Does anyone have a breakfast at tiffany's tattoo or know of anyone with them? I'm thinking of getting one with text and I love these quotes and of course at the end of the day I would pick which I like best but I was wondering what you think of them for tattoos, also suggest fonts, I think I want it on my foot in one line horizontal on the outside edge like starting at my pinky toe. (i hope that makes sense)
1. "I'll never get used to anything. Anybody that does, they might as well be dead. "
2. I don't want to own anything until I know I've found the place where me and things belong together. I think I would just get the bolded part but I'm not sure if the quote seems incomplete that way
3. "Anyone who ever gave you confidence, you owe them a lot"
4. I was thinking of maybe getting the first half of this quote on the outside of one of my feet and the other half on the outside of the other "If you let yourself love a wild thing." foot 1 " You'll end up looking at the sky." foot 2
5. "mille tendresse" short but sweet |

Hello, just wondering out of curiosity what is everyone perception of the quote "I took a deep breath and listened to the old bray of my heart. I am. I am. I am." from Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar" What do you think it means to say I am, I am, I am? |
